T.H.E.A. techniques include:

Modeling of strong leadership role
Violence reduction consultation and intervention use of community resource
Informal contextual socialization of the children
Mandated parental involvement in children's Discipline/improvement regimen conflict resolution/limit setting meetings
Increased staff presence/intercession beyond normal routine
Replacing negative behaviors with positive behavior rather than punishing individual and group counseling

When properly administered, the T.H.E.A. program can directly improve the outlook of an entire school community, and can indirectly improve life in the surrounding community. At a more individual level, T.H.E.A. works with the total child, ultimately leading to the development of young adults well equipped to handle the myriad complexities of modern culture.

Program Goals:

1. In conjunction with local school administrators/clinicians, T.H.E.A. leaders will triage high-risk students significantly delayed in language arts and math content areas toward proper remedial program components including: 1) an after school/home tutorial; 2) an in-school tutorial; 3) a special educational environment.

2. T.H.E.A. leaders will identify and refer those students experiencing extreme mental health problems to suitable programs within the local geographic area. For example, chronic emotionally disturbed non-attendees who elude truancy programs, manifest no particular criminal tendencies, and lack proper parental supervision will be targeted by T. H. E.A.

3. For successful program participants, T.H.E.A. leaders will organize college search strategies, facilitate college admission procedures, assist in college choice for those accepted, and assess financial aid packages such as scholarship programs.

4. T. H.E.A. leaders will enable students' career choice activities through provision of standardized vocational choice measures, interview techniques, and individual and group counseling procedures.

5. T.H.E.A. will promote development of basic computer literacy/word processing capabilities in students by linking them to local training programs or exposing them to an on-site student skill development protocol.

6. T.H.E.A. leaders will develop and implement a parenting skills training program component utilizing a psycho educational emphasis while simultaneously facilitating intrinsic intra-group support mechanisms.

7. After identifying teachers and other school staff in need of skill development, T.H.E.A. leaders will establish and implement the requisite training programs.

8. T.H.E.A. leaders will target structured and unstructured violence reduction efforts toward violence prone individuals and groups.
